An investigation that started last year to investigate funds missing from Boone County Accounts has led to more charges.
Boone County Assessor Brandi Diffey was arrested last week on a Misdemeanor Charge of Abuse of Office.
The investigation started last August conducted by the Arkansas State Police at the request of Prosecutor David Ethredge has already resulted in the arrest of former county employee Daniel Bolen on charges of stolen money as well as former Judge Robert Hathaway for failure to properly report those thefts. During the investigation, information was received that Diffey was misusing a county purchase card.
According to online court records, Diffey admits to using the card for purchases by her and family members at Walmart but claims it was a mistake as she had tied her Walmart account to both her personal and county card's and purchases made defaulted to the county card by mistake. Diffey says she has reimbursed the county for the purchases with the probably cause affidavit confirming that $1,906 of the just over $2,000 of purchases made on the card.
According to court documents, no other member of the Diffey family is facing charges in this incident.
After being booked into the Marion County Detention Center last week, Diffey was released later the same day on her own recognizance.
