A Monday morning crash south of Ava results in the death of a passenger in the vehicle.
According to the report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a pick-up truck driven by 68-year-old Martin Lane of Ava ran off the right side of Highway 5 several times before crossing the road and going off the left side of the road striking an embankment and overturning. While Lane sustained moderate injuries a passenger in the truck, 75-year-old Lester Lane, was pronounced dead at the scene.
This is the 21st fatality in crashes worked by Troop G of the Missouri State Highway Patrol in 2023.
