A section of Highway 248 connecting Jenkins with Cassville will be closed next week for up to four months.

According to the release from MODOT, work begins March 2 on the Highway 248 Bridge over Flat Creek west of Highway 39 to remove the current single lane bridge built in 1930 and replace it with a new two-lane structure.

The release states that no thru traffic will be allowed on 248 with motorist needing to detour the area using Highway 39 and Highway 76 to get to and from Cassville. In addition, Flat Creek will not be navigable under 248 during construction due to a temporary crossing for construction traffic.

Flat Creek will NOT be navigable under Route 248 due to a temporary crossing installed across the river to allow contractor crews to work on the bridge project.

The project is expected to take up to 120 days according to the release.
