Juneteenth National Independence Day has been celebrated in parts of the country for years but became a National Holiday two years ago when President Joe Biden signed the law proclaiming the day as a Federal Holiday.
Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of Slaves in Texas on June 19, 1865.
The Federal Holiday Designation means Federal Government Offices and many State and County Offices will be closed today as well as banks and financial institutions.
Extreme Heat Returns to Lakes Region UPDATE
UPDATE: The National Weather Service has upgraded the Heat Watch to a Heat Advisory for most of the Lakes Region. Both the Branson and Harrison areas are included in the advisory. The counties included are Barry, Stone, Taney, and Ozark in the Missouri Lakes Region in addition to Boone, Carroll, and Marion in Arkansas. Northern parts of Newton and Searcy Counties are also included in the advisory.
