A man who was caught after a pursuit in Stone County is being charged under a recently enacted law.
Court documents indicate that 28-year-old Toney Kyger of Marionville is facing three felony charges including one for resisting a stop which led to a pursuit by Stone County Deputies.
According to the documents, Stone County Deputies attempted to make a stop on Kyger’s vehicle in Crane this past Sunday when officers noted the vehicle had no headlights or taillights. The suspect fled, eventually driving toward a private residence where a deputy rammed his vehicle into Kyger’s vehicle which eventually led to his arrest.
A new law which went into effect, Valentine’s Law, in August makes fleeing from an officer a felony. The law is named after a St. Louis Detective killed in a pursuit where a vehicle was rammed to end the pursuit in 2021.
Kyger is in the Stone County Jail on a $75,000 bond with his next court appearance scheduled for October 8.
