The continuing clash between Conservative Republicans and other members of the party in the Senate has cost Lakes Area Senator Mike Moon some committee memberships.
Earlier Wednesday, Senate President Dave Schatz (R-Sullivan) stripped Moon (R-Ash Grove) from a handful of committees after clashing with leaderships and wearing overalls on the Senate floor last week.
Moon has been part of a group of senators that have been holding up debate in the senate on other issues as they continue to fight for a “7 Republican, 1 Democrat” map for Congressional Districts instead of one similar to the current “6-2” alignment.
Schultz tells Ozarks First that Moon wrote him a letter saying he would accept punishment for the violation of the Senate Dress Code but would not apologize for his actions. Last week on the floor, Moon said he had been threatened by other senators for what he was wearing, which was a suit coat, tie, and blue jean overalls. Schatz said when he approached Moon, he refused to leave the floor.
The debate was put on hold Tuesday and Wednesday with the rest of the sessions this week having been cancelled due to forecast snowfall in the Jefferson City area.
