Dustin Austin "Dusty" Nelson, born on June 23, 1961, in Kewanee, Illinois
Dustin Austin "Dusty" Nelson, born on June 23, 1961, in Kewanee, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly during the early morning hours of Saturday, July 4, 2026.
Dusty was the kind of person whose personality could light up a room. He had a heart that cared deeply for the people he loved, a quick wit, and a seemingly endless supply of dad jokes that could make anyone smile. Whether he was making someone laugh or simply spending time with family, he had a way of making people feel welcome and loved.
He found joy in the simple things in life. He loved creating art, playing poker, listening to music, hunting, fishing, watching baseball highlights, and spending time talking with his grandchildren. His family was the center of his world, and the memories they shared with him will be cherished forever.
One of the memories that meant so much to him was the trip he took to Hawaii with his son, Andrew. Visiting Hawaii had always been one of Dusty's lifelong dreams, and Andrew made that dream come true. It became one of his most treasured memories and reflected the special bond they shared.
Dusty proudly dedicated twenty-five years of his life to Dogwood Canyon Nature Park, where he enjoyed working in the beautiful surroundings he appreciated so much.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Nelson, and his sister, Donna Nelson.
He is survived by his father, Shirley Nelson; his children: Amanda Aljets, Andrew Nelson, Anthony Nelson, Wendi Sykes, and Stephanie Thompson; and his beloved grandchildren: Elijah, Sophia, Ava, Rolen, Alyvia, Anastasia, Charles, Dorrion, Aria, Berkley, Ryleigh, and Haisley. He also leaves behind many other family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
A Celebration of Life honoring Dusty will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the Chapel at Dogwood Canyon Nature Park, 2038 State Hwy 86, Lampe, Missouri. Family and friends are invited to come together to share stories, laughter, tears, and celebrate a life that touched so many people. His legacy will live on in his children, grandchildren, family, and all those fortunate enough to have known and loved him.
